Toyota West Virginia to Invest $88M in Advanced Hybrid Transaxle Line, Production Slated for Late 2026
Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia will invest $88 million to install a new assembly line for next-generation hybrid transaxles at its Buffalo, WV plant, with production scheduled to begin in late 2026. This investment brings total plant investments to over $2.8 billion and reinforces Toyota’s commitment to its “build where we sell” strategy across North America. The funding also includes a $100,000 donation to Marshall University’s Advanced Manufacturing Center to support workforce development.
The hybrid transaxle integrating internal combustion and electric motor power delivery will be used in future Toyota and Lexus models assembled in North America. While no new jobs are projected immediately, the line supports 2,000 existing positions, ensuring workforce stability while preparing for rising EV and hybrid demand.
For the precision machining industry, this investment signals increased demand for high-precision drivetrain components such as gear housings, shafts, and machined electric motor interfaces used in hybrid powertrains. Suppliers capable of meeting tight tolerances and material specifications for hybrid components will find expanding opportunities as Toyota scales hybrid drivetrain production.
