Thermo Fisher to Acquire Sanofi’s Steriles Manufacturing Site in Ridgefield, NJ
Thermo Fisher Scientific has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Sanofi’s sterile manufacturing facility in Ridgefield, New Jersey. This acquisition will enable Thermo Fisher to continue producing a portfolio of sterile injectable therapies for Sanofi while also expanding its own contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) capacity. The Ridgefield site is a key player in the production of high-value sterile drug products, including biologics and specialty pharmaceuticals, with capabilities spanning aseptic fill-finish, lyophilization, and advanced packaging.
For the precision machining industry, the acquisition signals sustained investment in high-specification pharmaceutical manufacturing infrastructure. Sterile manufacturing facilities depend on tight-tolerance stainless steel process components, precision-machined pump housings, custom filling nozzles, and hygienic-grade piping systems. Machine shops with expertise in machining 316L stainless steel, Hastelloy, and other corrosion-resistant alloys as well as those with capabilities in electropolishing and surface passivation are well-positioned to support ongoing equipment upgrades, retrofits, and new tooling needs. As Thermo Fisher ramps up operations, demand will grow for both new component fabrication and rapid-response replacement part production to minimize downtime in sterile production lines.
