Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. Announced The Asset Purchase Of Anderson Manufacturing, The U.S.-Manufacturer Of Firearms, Parts And Accessories Based In Hebron, KY
Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR), a leading U.S. firearms manufacturer, announced on July 1, 2025, the asset purchase of Anderson Manufacturing, a Hebron, Kentucky-based producer of firearms, parts, and accessories, known for its budget-friendly AR-15 rifles and components. The acquisition includes Anderson’s 60,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and machinery, enabling Ruger to integrate a skilled workforce of approximately 100 employees and expand production capacity for rifles, pistols, and accessories. The facility, located in a firearms-friendly region, will support new product launches and growth in Ruger’s accessories business, leveraging Anderson’s expertise in AR-15 lowers and aftermarket parts. Ruger will discontinue the Anderson brand, integrating its capabilities into existing operations in Newport, New Hampshire; Prescott, Arizona; Mayodan, North Carolina; and Earth City, Missouri. The project sustains 100 jobs and supports Kentucky’s 8,000-strong manufacturing workforce, aligning with tariff-driven reshoring under President Trump’s 10% global and 30% Chinese tariffs, targeting a $5 billion firearms market. CEO Todd Seyfert stated, “This acquisition advances our long-term strategy, reinforcing Ruger’s leadership and commitment to American manufacturing.”
For the precision machining industry, Ruger’s acquisition highlights the critical role of surface finish in manufacturing firearms components. Parts like AR-15 lower receivers require CNC milling with precise surface finish, achieving roughness as low as Ra 4 µin to ensure reliability and compatibility, with tolerances within ±0.001 inches for high-strength aluminum alloys. 5-axis milling machines, optimized for surface finish to enhance durability and aesthetics, support automated production with real-time quality control. The project drives demand for local machine shops to supply precision tooling, adopting Industry 4.0 technologies like AI-driven milling and additive manufacturing. As part of a $50 billion precision manufacturing market, this initiative creates opportunities for suppliers in Kentucky, where manufacturing jobs grew 2% since 2022, strengthening firearms supply chains.
