Sharrow Engineering Have Announced A Major Expansion With A New Manufacturing Facility In Metro Detroit. Production At The New 60,000-Square-Foot Facility Is Expected To Start In September
Sharrow Engineering, LLC, a Philadelphia-based innovator in propeller technology, announced on July 28, 2025, a $30 million expansion with a new 60,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Metro Detroit, Michigan, at 2000 Centerpoint Parkway, Pontiac. The facility, set to begin production in September 2025, will produce 10,000 Sharrow Propellers™ annually, featuring the patented loop design that boosts efficiency by 15–30% compared to conventional propellers, targeting marine, aerospace, and industrial applications. The project, supported by a $1.5 million Michigan Business Development Program grant and a partnership with VEEM Ltd. for high-performance propellers, will create 75 new jobs, boosting Oakland County’s 20,000-strong manufacturing workforce. Aligned with President Trump’s 10% global tariffs, it addresses a $5 billion propeller market, driven by demand for fuel-efficient, low-vibration solutions. CEO Greg Sharrow stated, “This facility scales our revolutionary technology, reinforcing U.S. manufacturing leadership.”
For the precision machining industry, Sharrow’s expansion underscores the critical role of tool runout in manufacturing propeller components. Parts like blade hubs require CNC milling with minimal tool runout, typically under 0.0002 inches, to achieve tolerances within ±0.0005 inches and surface roughness as low as Ra 4 µin for stainless steel and composites. 5-axis milling machines, optimized for tool runout to ensure precision, support automated production with real-time quality control. The project drives demand for local machine shops to supply precision tooling, adopting Industry 4.0 technologies like AI-driven milling and additive manufacturing. As part of a $50 billion precision manufacturing market, this initiative creates opportunities for suppliers in Michigan, where manufacturing jobs grew 2% since 2022, strengthening marine supply chains.
