Nxlite Has Opened A New, 45,000-Square-Foot, $9-Million Advanced Innovation And Manufacturing Center In Canton Township That Will Serve As The Company’s Headquarters
NxLite, a Toronto-based cleantech innovator, opened its $9 million, 45,000-square-foot Advanced Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Center in Canton Township, Michigan, on April 22, 2025, establishing it as the company’s U.S. headquarters. Acquired for $525,000 from a liquidated Tesla supplier, the facility houses state-of-the-art nano-coating production lines and a materials science R&D center, producing energy-efficient coatings for glass and polymers used in windows, refrigeration doors, and transportation. Supported by a $1.5 million Michigan Business Development Program grant, the AIM Center will create 39 jobs, contributing to Canton’s 10,000-strong manufacturing workforce. The facility, capable of producing 2 million square feet of coating annually, targets a $10 billion building materials market, with applications reducing energy loss by up to 30% per the U.S. Department of Energy. CEO David Mather highlighted “surging demand” for sustainable solutions, bolstered by NxLite’s 2024 Cleantech 50 to Watch recognition and $10 million in funding from Earth Foundry and Muus Climate Ventures. The center aligns with Michigan’s glass innovation hub, alongside firms like Guardian Glass, amid tariff-driven reshoring.
For the precision machining industry, NxLite’s AIM Center underscores the pivotal role of CNC milling in advanced coating production. The facility’s nano-coating lines require precision-machined components, such as applicator nozzles and conveyor frames, crafted with CNC milling to achieve sub-micron tolerances for uniform coating application. CNC milling ensures high-accuracy tooling and fixtures, supporting automated systems integrated with real-time quality control for high-volume output. The R&D center’s prototyping drives demand for local machine shops to supply custom parts, adopting Industry 4.0 technologies like AI-driven machining and additive manufacturing. As part of a $50 billion precision manufacturing market, this project creates opportunities for suppliers in Michigan, where manufacturing jobs grew 2% since 2022, strengthening supply chains for sustainable manufacturing.
