NASA Selects Barrios Technology for $450M Human Spaceflight Technical Integration Contract

NASA has awarded Barrios Technology, LLC, based in Houston, a new Mission Technical Integration Contract (MTIC) valued at approximately $450 million. The cost-plus-award-fee and cost-plus-incentive-fee contract spans from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2027, with four one-year options extending through 2031, reinforcing Barrios’ longstanding role as a trusted technical partner in human spaceflight programs.

Under this renewed agreement, Barrios will continue providing critical services across NASA’s human spaceflight portfolio—covering systems engineering and integration, program and configuration data management, IT support, safety and mission assurance, operations, and mission integration—for pivotal programs like the International Space Station (ISS), Orion, and Gateway missions.

For the precision machining industry, this contract underscores the enduring importance of high-precision engineering and integration support in aerospace supply chains. Technical integration often involves bridging hardware and software, ensuring aero components align precisely with systems specs, verifying fit and tolerance across subsystems, and managing configuration control—all of which require meticulous assembly fixtures, precision jigs, calibration hardware, and integration tooling. Machine shops adept at delivering custom, tight-tolerance components—especially for flight-critical assemblies—will find strategic opportunities supporting this backbone of U.S. human spaceflight operations.
