JLL Has Announced The Formation Of A Dedicated Advanced Manufacturing Group. The New Initiative Will Offer Integrated, Specialized Real Estate Solutions In The High-Tech Production Sector
JLL, a global leader in real estate and investment management, announced on June 1, 2025, the formation of its Advanced Manufacturing Group, a specialized branch of its Industrials division, led by Executive Managing Director Mario Ochoa. The group delivers tailored real estate solutions for high-tech production sectors like semiconductors, photonics, and energy storage, addressing a $10 billion U.S. industrial real estate market. With 25 years of global experience from roles at Flex International and Marvell Semiconductor, Ochoa will guide clients in site selection, facilities management, and sustainability services, integrating expertise from JLL’s Capital Markets, Real Estate Management Services, and Project Development Services. The initiative, supporting projects like a 198,336-square-foot facility in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, is expected to facilitate 300 jobs across supported projects, boosting the 60,000-strong manufacturing workforce in Greater Boston. Aligned with tariff-driven reshoring under President Trump’s 25% steel tariffs, the group enhances supply chain resilience. Ochoa noted the group’s focus on “modernization and sustainability” for advanced manufacturing clients.
For the precision machining industry, JLL’s Advanced Manufacturing Group underscores the critical role of chip load in high-tech facility equipment. Components like semiconductor tooling require CNC milling with precise chip loads, typically 0.002–0.01 inches per tooth, to achieve tolerances within ±0.0005 inches and surface roughness as low as Ra 4 µin for high-strength alloys. 5-axis milling machines, optimized for chip load to balance material removal and tool life, support automated production with real-time quality control. The group’s projects drive demand for local machine shops to supply precision tooling, adopting Industry 4.0 technologies like AI-driven milling and additive manufacturing. As part of a $50 billion precision manufacturing market, this initiative creates opportunities for suppliers in regions like Massachusetts, where manufacturing jobs grew 2% since 2022, strengthening high-tech supply chains.
