Hotpack, The Sustainable Food Packaging Supplier Based In The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Is Set To Establish Its First North American Production Facility In Edison, NJ

Hotpack, a United Arab Emirates-based leader in sustainable food packaging, announced on May 5, 2025, a $100 million investment to establish its first North American manufacturing and distribution facility in Edison, New Jersey. The 70,000-square-foot plant, set to begin operations in June 2025, will produce customized cups, containers, and clamshells made from plastic and paper, targeting a $5 billion U.S. packaging market. The facility, supported by New Jersey’s economic incentives, is expected to create 200 jobs in Middlesex County over five years, contributing to the region’s 30,000-strong manufacturing workforce. Founded in 1995, Hotpack operates 20 facilities across 17 countries, and the Edison site aligns with its 2030 Vision for global expansion, following investments in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and India. Governor Phil Murphy, who announced the project during a trade mission to the Gulf Arab States, praised its “endorsement of New Jersey’s skilled workforce.” The plant’s advanced technology and sustainable practices support tariff-driven reshoring under President Trump’s 10% tariffs, enhancing supply chain efficiency.

For the precision machining industry, Hotpack’s facility highlights the critical role of workpiece rigidity in packaging equipment manufacturing. Components like cutting dies and mold bases require CNC milling of rigid workpieces to prevent vibration, ensuring tolerances within ±0.001 inches and surface roughness as low as Ra 8 µin. 5-axis milling machines, optimized for workpiece rigidity through secure fixturing, support high-speed automated lines with real-time quality control. The facility’s advanced production drives demand for local machine shops to supply precision tooling, adopting Industry 4.0 technologies like AI-driven milling and additive manufacturing. As part of a $50 billion precision manufacturing market, this project creates opportunities for suppliers in New Jersey, where manufacturing jobs grew 2% since 2022, strengthening sustainable packaging supply chains.
