Hitachi Rail Opens $100 Million Railcar Manufacturing Complex in Maryland
Hitachi Rail has officially opened a new $100 million railcar manufacturing complex in Halfway, Maryland. The facility will serve as the company’s North American production hub, responsible for assembling, testing, and maintaining next-generation metro and commuter trains. This investment supports hundreds of skilled manufacturing jobs and reinforces Hitachi’s long-term commitment to expanding sustainable transportation solutions in the U.S.
For the precision machining sector, the plant’s operations create demand for large-scale welded assemblies, bogie frames, drive components, and safety-critical machined parts. Rail manufacturing requires extremely tight-tolerance mechanical systems capable of handling heavy dynamic loads and long-term fatigue performance—offering significant opportunities for specialized machine shops and fabricators.
