General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems Welcomed Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves To Its
Manufacturing Center Of Excellence In Tupelo, Mississippi

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) welcomed Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves to its Manufacturing Center of Excellence in Tupelo on August 12, 2025, for a tour highlighting the facility’s role in national defense. The 750,000-square-foot center, with additional sites in Iuka, produces directed energy systems, hypersonics, and space-based missile warning payloads, including the Bullseye™ precision-guided missile. The visit, at the invitation of U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, emphasized Mississippi’s growing defense sector, with GA-EMS investing $39.5 million and creating 125 jobs since 2020. The project sustains 300

jobs, supporting Tupelo’s 5,000-strong manufacturing workforce. Aligned with President Trump’s 10% global tariffs, it targets a $5 billion directed energy market. President Scott Forney stated, “Our Tupelo center delivers world-class technologies for military readiness.”

For the precision machining industry, GA-EMS’s center highlights the critical role of machine rigidity in manufacturing defense components. Parts like missile housings require CNC milling with high machine rigidity to minimize vibration, achieving tolerances within ±0.0005 inches and surface roughness as low as Ra 4 µin for advanced alloys. 5-axis milling machines, optimized for machine rigidity to ensure stability, support automated production with real-time quality control. The project drives demand for local machine shops to supply precision tooling, adopting Industry 4.0 technologies like AI-driven milling and additive manufacturing. As part of a $50 billion precision manufacturing market, this initiative creates opportunities for suppliers in Mississippi, where manufacturing jobs grew 2% since 2022, strengthening defense supply chains.
