Clarios Has Announced Plans To Establish A Best-in-class Manufacturing Technology & Training Center In The U.S. This New Facility Supports The $600M Investment In Advanced Manufacturing, Central To The $6B U.S. Energy Strategy
Clarios, a global leader in advanced low-voltage battery technologies, announced on June 26, 2025, plans to establish a best-in-class Manufacturing Technology & Training Center in the United States, supporting a $600 million investment in advanced manufacturing as part of its $6 billion U.S. energy strategy. The center, with a location to be finalized by late 2025 in states where Clarios operates (e.g., Wisconsin, South Carolina, Ohio), will serve as a hub for workforce development, R&D, and technology validation. It will advance technologies like advanced robotics, AI-augmented vision systems, autonomous material handling, and next-generation manufacturing software, aiming to boost productivity by 20% and enhance safety across Clarios’s 16 U.S. facilities. The project is expected to create 200 jobs, supporting the 5,500-strong U.S. workforce, and aligns with tariff-driven reshoring under President Trump’s 10% global and 30% Chinese tariffs, targeting a $5 billion battery market. Enabled by federal advanced manufacturing tax credits, the center will upskill workers through hands-on training and innovation workshops. Chief Digital & Information Officer Chad Steighner stated, “This center will build the factory and workforce of the future, strengthening U.S. competitiveness.”
For the precision machining industry, Clarios’s center underscores the critical role of tool overhang in manufacturing battery components. Parts like battery casings require CNC milling with minimal tool overhang, typically under 3 times the tool diameter, to maintain tolerances within ±0.001 inches and surface roughness as low as Ra 8 µin for high-strength plastics and metals. 5-axis milling machines, optimized for tool overhang to reduce vibration and ensure stability, support automated production with real-time quality control. The project drives demand for local machine shops to supply precision tooling, adopting Industry 4.0 technologies like AI-driven milling and additive manufacturing. As part of a $50 billion precision manufacturing market, this initiative creates opportunities for suppliers in states like Wisconsin, where manufacturing jobs grew 2% since 2022, strengthening energy storage supply chains.
