Bayer Proudly Celebrated The Grand Opening Of Its New 70,000 Square Foot Expansion At Its Myerstown Facility, Following A $44 Million Investment In 2022

Bayer celebrated the grand opening of a 70,000-square-foot expansion at its Myerstown, Pennsylvania, facility on April 16, 2025, following a $44 million investment announced in 2022. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by Bayer leaders, 585+ employees, elected officials, and Lebanon County community members, marked a milestone for the 78-year-old site, Bayer’s largest consumer health manufacturing facility globally. The expansion, designed by Burns & McDonnell, adds eight automated packaging lines and modernized logistics systems, producing over 50% of Bayer’s North American brands, including Bayer Aspirin, Aleve, Claritin, and One A Day. With 14.1 billion tablets and 169.1 million packaged units manufactured in 2021, the facility on 68 acres now supports future rooftop solar panels (up to 2.57MW capacity). Dave Tomasi, President of Bayer’s Consumer Health North America, noted enhanced “speed and reliability” for self-care solutions. The project created 78 construction jobs and supports workforce upskilling for Industry 4.0 technologies, though Bayer remains noncommittal on permanent job additions, citing demand-driven hiring. The expansion strengthens Myerstown’s economy, where manufacturing employs over 5,000 workers.

For the precision machining industry, Bayer’s automated packaging lines drive demand for high-precision components critical to advanced manufacturing.

For the precision machining industry, Bayer’s automated packaging lines drive demand for high-precision components critical to advanced manufacturing. These systems require precision-machined parts, such as conveyor gears and robotic arm joints, crafted with 5-axis CNC milling and laser cutting to achieve sub-micron tolerances for high-speed operation. Automated packaging relies on custom fixtures and sensors, fabricated using precision grinding and EDM to ensure reliability in 24/7 production. The facility’s modernization pushes local machine shops to adopt IoT-enabled machining and additive manufacturing for rapid tooling, fostering innovation in corrosion-resistant alloys and smart logistics. As part of a $50 billion pharmaceutical manufacturing market, the expansion creates opportunities for suppliers in Pennsylvania, where manufacturing output grew 2% since 2022, enhancing supply chains and technical expertise for consumer health production.
