Balmoral Tanks, Recognized Worldwide As A Leading Producer Of Digester Tanks For Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Plants, Is Expanding Its Production Capabilities Into The United States With The Launch Of Its U.S. Business

Balmoral Tanks, a global leader in digester tanks for anaerobic digestion (AD) plants, launched its U.S. operations with a new 16,600-square-foot manufacturing facility in Mentor, Ohio, on April 24, 2025. The $2 million investment, part of a $30 million commitment to its tank business since 2018, will produce epoxy-coated steel tanks under the proprietary efusion® brand for AD, wastewater, and biogas applications. Scheduled to open in summer 2025, the facility will employ about 20 people, contributing to Lake County’s 15,000-strong manufacturing workforce. Balmoral, known for supplying two 11,500m³ tanks for a Michigan AD project—among the world’s largest—targets the $5 billion U.S. biogas market, driven by demand for renewable natural gas (RNG). The Ohio site, the company’s third global facility alongside operations in England and Scotland, benefits from proximity to agricultural hubs and tariff-driven reshoring incentives. Managing Director Allan Joyce emphasized the facility’s role in “meeting North America’s growing need for sustainable energy solutions.” The launch aligns with Balmoral’s partnership with Greatario in Canada, enhancing its North American presence.

For the precision machining industry, Balmoral’s U.S. expansion highlights the essential role of CNC turning in tank manufacturing.

For the precision machining industry, Balmoral’s U.S. expansion highlights the essential role of CNC turning in tank manufacturing. The production of efusion® tanks requires precision-machined components, such as flange fittings and structural supports, crafted with CNC turning to achieve sub-millimeter tolerances for leak-proof assembly. CNC turning ensures high-accuracy cylindrical parts, supporting automated welding systems integrated with real-time quality control for high-volume production. The facility’s output drives demand for local machine shops to supply custom tooling, adopting Industry 4.0 technologies like IoT-enabled machining and additive manufacturing for rapid prototyping. As part of a $50 billion precision manufacturing market, this project creates opportunities for suppliers in Ohio, where manufacturing jobs have grown 2% since 2022, strengthening supply chains for sustainable infrastructure amid tariff pressures.
