Archer Aviation Received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Certification To Launch Its Pilot Training Academy

Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR) has taken a significant step toward its goal of revolutionizing urban travel with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granting its Part 141 certification. This milestone, awarded on February 18, 2025, during a ceremony at Archer’s flight test facility in Salinas, California, authorizes the company to launch its pilot training academy. The Part 141 certificate designates Archer as a formally recognized and regulated flight school, enabling it to train and qualify pilots for its upcoming commercial air taxi services featuring the Midnight aircraft. This is the third of four key FAA certifications Archer needs to launch operations, following its Part 135 Air Carrier & Operator Certificate (June 2024) and Part 145 certification (February 2024), with Part 142 still in progress.

The academy will build a pipeline of skilled pilots to operate Midnight, a piloted, four-passenger electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed for rapid 10–20-minute urban flights, replacing 60–90-minute car commutes. With a cruising altitude of about 2,000 feet and noise levels around 45 decibels—nearly 1,000 times quieter than a helicopter—the Midnight promises a safe, sustainable, and low-noise alternative to ground transportation. Archer’s progress positions it as a leader in the eVTOL sector, with plans to commence commercial services once Midnight secures its Type Certification.

The buzz reflects optimism about the company’s trajectory, with users emphasizing the academy’s role in preparing for “safe, sustainable air taxi services” set to transform urban mobility in 2025 and beyond.
