Anduril Industries Has Been Awarded A $310 Million Grant From Ohio's Job Creation Office, As The Company Prepares To Build A Massive Manufacturing Facility Arsenal 1 Near Columbus
Anduril Industries, a Costa Mesa, California-based defense technology company, was awarded a $310 million grant from Ohio’s JobsOhio on July 9, 2025, to construct Arsenal 1, a 5-million-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility in Pickaway County, near Rickenbacker International Airport, 16 miles southeast of Columbus. Set to open in July 2026, the facility will produce tens of thousands of military drones and autonomous air vehicles annually, leveraging Anduril’s Arsenal software platform for AI-driven, high-speed production. The 30-year agreement requires Anduril to create 4,008 jobs with over $530 million in payroll and invest $910.5 million in capital by 2035, maintaining commitments for two additional decades. Additional incentives include a 2.594% Job Creation Tax Credit (worth up to $452.3 million through 2055) and a $70 million All Ohio Future Fund infusion. Located near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the 500-acre site supports rapid delivery via two 12,000-foot runways, creating 8,500 indirect jobs in construction and supply chains. Aligned with President Trump’s 10% global tariffs, it targets a $5 billion drone market. CEO Brian Schimpf stated, “Arsenal 1 will redefine defense manufacturing, scaling autonomous systems for national security.”
For the precision machining industry, Anduril’s Arsenal 1 underscores the critical role of tool deflection in manufacturing drone components. Parts like fuselage frames require CNC milling with minimal tool deflection, typically under 0.0003 inches, to achieve tolerances within ±0.0005 inches and surface roughness as low as Ra 4 µin for lightweight alloys. 5-axis milling machines, optimized for tool deflection to ensure dimensional accuracy, support automated production with real-time quality control. The project drives demand for local machine shops to supply precision tooling, adopting Industry 4.0 technologies like AI-driven milling and additive manufacturing. As part of a $50 billion precision manufacturing market, this initiative creates opportunities for suppliers in Ohio, where manufacturing jobs grew 2% since 2022, strengthening defense supply chains.
