What material has the lowest machinability rating?
A
Titanium Alloys
B
Inconel
C
304 Stainless Steel
D
Hardened Tool Steel
What material has the lowest machinability rating?
B
Inconel has the lowest machinability rating.
WHY
It’s notoriously tough on tools, with poor thermal conductivity, high strength at temperature, and extreme work hardening - all of which make it one of the least machinable materials in the industry. Inconel alloys, particularly Inconel 718, typically have a machinability rating of around 10-20% compared to AISI 1212 steel, which is the baseline at 100%.
